I have seen the remark "I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them" attributed to George Bush senior. If anyone can give me an exact attribution, I shall be glad to know when and where (and, indeed, if) he actually said that. In the meantime I should like to adopt it as my personal motto.
